Didn't like the story line. The young animal only smiled when something bad happened to its mother. Should have smiled when good things happened.
Such an adorable story and the illustrations are beautiful. Charles Fuge is one of the only illustrators that we have bought almost every single one of his books. They're simple exquisite. The story is about a little boy kangaroo who won't smile and his mom does silly things to help him smile. The text is longer than a young one year or two year old may sit through but it's worth it to try. There are pages where the text is very large like Word Art so it jumps out and catches the attention of the children though so it's way fun. There is one spread where you turn the book to be vertical instead of horizontal which my 2 year old adores!

My grandkids love this book.
One of my favorite books ever! Such a cute story about a crabby little kangaroo. The mother tries to get a smile out by doing many things, but it turns into something silly that gets them both laughing. Describes my serious daughter perfectly!
My 3 year old daughter absolutely LOVES this book. The story is cute and enjoyable. It deals with a grumpy little kangaroo who doesn't know why he's grumpy and his mom who tries to cheer him up. The illustrations are amazing! You should get this book! :) I even enjoy it...every night...and nap time...several weeks later!
Such a sweet book to read to your child. My son loves when I read him this book !
