The author is direct and to the point on explaining how to create solid habits to form a positive attitude and tough mindset. --- I have read other books on this topic and none of them ever covered the value of black coffee, mindless eating and how certain addictions weigh on mental toughness. It's food for thought. 😁

This book covers all the tenets of good health both physical and mental. Well written and to the point. He provides just the right amount of info on each topic without a ton of boring detail and fluff. Most of the information wasn't new to me but I like that it was a fairly quick read and well organized. Lots of good ideas for anyone into self improvement. I think implementing one chapter per week or month in a step by step process would be beneficial for anyone especially if you are working towards a goal. I will definitely be checking out his other titles.

in all honesty....with the exception of two key points, this book is based on common sense.......would have like to have heard obstacles the author endured, having applied techniques he recommended......not very inspiring....

I gave it a four star just due to the fact a lot of information in it is a repeat from other books however this author puts his own spin on it which allows you to digest it from another angle.Good book nonetheless and recommend it to anyone looking to increase their mental toughness.

I'm not much of a reader never really was,this book changed that. It kept me interested in what was in the next chapter. I'm even thinking of reading it again so it can really sink in!!!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

“The Science of Mental Toughness” is a sweet little book. It took me only four session of 10-minute speed reading exercises to read it from cover to cover.Indeed, there is close to none fluff there and I appreciate it very much.I loved the premise of the book and the definition of mental toughness it provided:“Mental toughness is the ability to look at hardship and adversity and enjoy it, knowing that you will eventually succeed.”There are some weak spots and, as usual, I start from them. But great points follow them and they are more numerous and significant. This book is well worth reading.CONS1. It's shallow here and there.In a few places it looks like Raza wanted to say his point and move on. Because of the concise format the author simply had not enough word count to convey some specific detailed tips. Because of that the book is full of "whats" but not as full of "hows."2. Personal development fallacy.Raza is guilty of the sin of multiple personal development experts. He shines advice that is not applicable by common mortals. I mean, mastering your emotions or fixing your self-talk is very powerful, but an average person has little idea how to do that. Giving such advice is like saying: "Flap your arms and fly."We. Can't. Do. It.This book is basic, so it should cover some basic techniques of governing your tongue or getting grip on your emotions. There are some tips in the book, but I don't feel they are enough.3. Not enough Raza.I agree with another reviewer that this book is also thin about author's obstacles and hardships. More personal stories would make this book even more relatable and interesting.PROS1. Science.There is a plenty of references to scientific research in the book, and the content gives the title justice. I'm not a raving fan of behavioral research, but I still enjoyed all the references to various experiments.2. Common sense.In a few chapters there are no references to research, but it is solid common sense. Well, if the science is against common sense, it's not a real science for me.Some activities - taking cold showers or waking up early - connotes with mental toughness no matter what eggheads may say. What is more, those are tangible, down to earth disciplines anybody is capable of (unlike mastering one's emotions :P ).3. Simplicity.Yes, Raza recommends some 'woo-woo' methods, like affirmations and visualizations. But he also provides some other very simple methods to become mentally tougher. He starts from breathing, a skill everybody possess. There is nothing simpler than inhaling and exhaling, isn't it?4. Surprises.Some of the methods the author recommends sounds too simple to be true. I mean, for example, drinking a black coffee or giving freely. What it has to do with mental toughness? Spoiler: quite a lot.5. Personal experience.I appreciate that Raza doesn't only write things he read or heard of. He applies everything he talks about in his own life. He is a practitioner. The stories from his experience are few and far between, but they give the proper taste to the rest of the content, like raisins give taste to a cake.My Suggestions:To make up for the book's cons you need to add some action to your reading. I suggest you actually do every single exercise Raza Imam instances in the book, just to get a feeling of them. You don't need to visualize every day, especially if you have never done that and has little idea how to do that. But do it at least once while reading the book.All the methods to become mentally tough enumerated by Raza are interlocked. Thus, start from the easiest one for you. If you are a dreamer, visualize. If you are an altruist, give.My take would be to start from amending your self-talk and waking up early. If you can get a grip on your self-talk, other more "mystical" techniques (visualization, mastering emotions, getting rid of excuses) will become easier for you.In my experience the first step to govern your internal speech is to become aware of it. I found two methods very applicable to that end: meditation and journaling. They both will make you aware what's going through your mind. Once you notice it, you can step in between the stimulus and reaction and modify your self-talk patterns.If you can wake up earlier you will reap multiple benefits, exactly as the author preaches in "The Science of Mental Toughness" and you will have more time to apply other tactics from the book.In Summary:Definitely, read the book. It's short, sweet and to the point. Then pick 1-2 methods recommended by Raza and start practicing them on a daily basis. You will look at hardship and adversity and enjoy it, knowing that you will eventually succeed.

Raza has done it again. He's boiled down an expansive topic, and given it life! I don't have time for fluff. I'm going to put these suggestions to work with my health and wellness clients today.
