Lisa Gardner hit it out of the park with this one. I loved it. It began a little darkly, but once I was into it (by just a few pages) I could not put it down. There are deeply developed characters, all of whom kept me guessing. I became protective of Melanie Stokes ("the other daughter") almost immediately. There were multiple plots, or mysteries, and it was difficult for me to determine which to focus on first. In her distinctive way, Ms. Gardner helped keep my focus on everything (!). Without giving anything away, I couldn't figure out who the bad guys were and who were not.I personally have attended an execution in Huntsville, TX and appreciate the author's research and resultant accuracy. Lisa Gardner has always impressed me in that regard.This is a stand-alone novel. However, if you haven't read her 6-book FBI Series, this would be a great read before FBI Book 1, The Perfect Husband.If you figure out what's happening before the last 7/8ths of the book, you're a better sleuth than I. Definitely an enjoyable, intense read.

This novel by Lisa Gardner started off with a very promising bang! I thought I'd made an excellent choice. However the book slowly unraveled for me with familiar and expected plot twists. I did finish it, but the book was too quirky for my taste. I believe I have read one other book by Ms. Gardner and my recollection was that it was better crafted. I really don't have anything else to add.

I have read most of Lisa Gardner's books and I have enjoyed most of them. This one was very suspenseful and full of unexpected twists and turns. However, it was too farfetched for my taste - once we get to the bottom of it, without giving anything away, I thought it was pretty unbelievable.Also, a crisis has brought these two people together, I get that. But when it's over they declare their undying love for each other. Call me a cynic, but on a regular day to day basis, they probably wouldn't be able to stand each other. Gardner could have just ended with them starting a new relationship, not ready to get married.

I am a fan of Lisa Gardner but this book was so bad. I finished it anyway. After reading “The Perfect Husband,” I was a bit over the “wounded, vulnerable woman” who falls for the equally wounded, aloof, yet handsome and protective hero. They fall in love in about a week’s time! This book just felt contrived and formulaic. Hoping the next one is better.

First of all, I can hardly believe this book was written by Lisa Gardner. I have read several of her books and just could not put them down.The first third of this book was quite good, but the further I got into it, the worse it got. First of all, I figured everything out about half-way through, and I spent the rest of the book wondering if the writing was taken over by someone else. I wanted to finish it simply because I hoped it would get better. But no. I won't spoil it for anyone else who wants to read it, but really---it was just too implausible. I am usually able to suspend belief when reading fiction, but for this one I would have had to suspend intelligence.

As some have said, this plot line is a little far-fetched but, overall, IMO it was another great LG book. I've read mystery/suspense books all my life and find her to be one of the best contemporary examples of the genre. She sure knows how to write a page-turner!

I really wanted to like this book. I love Lisa Gardner's DD Warren series and suggest you read the books in that series over this book. Her DD Warren series is just so much better...the characters are more interesting, the plot twists are fascinating, and there's just a little romance sprinkled in with the mystery. I felt like this book read like an old Silhouette romance and the heroine was really weak and hard to like.I just read "Touch and Go" and it was another winner.I've switched to another author until Lisa Gardner's next book comes out.
